bad jokes for a monday!

It's Monday.  We all need to smile a little on Mondays.  These are pretty bad, but maybe they'll make you crack a smile.  They made me giggle a little...

Happy Friday!

I am so happy that it's Friday. I only wish that it was the end of the day Friday instead of the beginning of the day Friday, but it'll come soon enough I suppose.

I have absolutely no plans this weekend. (well, I'm having bruch/doing an errand with someone tomorrow, but that's different). And, as much of a dork as it makes me, I am SO excited for a weekend where I'm not going out at all. Where I can sit around in my pajamas, watching tv at night and go to bed early. Where I can be productive (or not) during the days, but have a real choice instead of being tied to the couch because of a brutal hangover. I just need this weekend of nothingness. It makes me very very happy.

I'll end this post with a few pictures of last weekend's craziness. Lisa and Tyler's birthdays were last Friday night and oh did we celebrate... For more pictures, click on the "my photos" link to the right. They're in the album "Chicago 2007."

**EDIT** For some reason, the pictures have disappeared. Strange. Oh well, just go look at the flickr page...

Happy Valentine's Day

So it's February 14th again. Happy Valentine's Day to all. I hope that in some way or another, you get to celebrate love today. Any kind of love.

Valentine's Day is an interesting day for me. Once upon a time, it held so much meaning and was really one of the highlights of the year. And after that, it was a pretty painful reminder for a few years. But I think I'm back on the up-side of Valentine's Day. Not that I have a Valentine this year (because I don't), but just that I now appreciate some of the deeper sentiment of a day dedicated to specially recognizing the love in your life. Yes, I think that in general Valentine's Day is too commercial. But I also do think that it serves an important larger purpose. You don't have to be in a relationship to celebrate Valentine's Day. There are all different kinds of love and I think it's important to recognize that sometimes.

As for my Valentine's Day 2007... well, it started off great with an email and a phone call that were just really good. And tonight I'm driving to Michigan City, IN to see Sister Hazel play an all-acoustic show. The friend I was supposed to go with bailed this morning (she's sick :( ) but I'm going to go still. Hopefully I'll be able to meet up with some people there, but even if I don't, I just think that the show is going to be SO incredible that it'll be totally worth it.

So, Happy Valentine's Day. I hope that you get to do something that you love, with the people who you love today.

snow snow snow

It is SNOWING outside! Normally this would be just a minor inconvenience. Cold and unpleasant and slightly dangerous but nothign major. However, I had plans tomorrow to drive to Michigan City to go to a concert and those plans are at MAJOR risk of cancellation if the roads don't improve significantly overnight. I will be PISSED to say the least...

So please, help me out and do an anti-snow dance with me tonight...

migraines SUCK

I had a nice nice weekend. Was going to post last night, but, well, for reasons you'll see in a moment, that didn't happen and instead I'm posting a very different post.

Weekend was great until the drive home from the burbs last night. I talked to Sarah the whole time, which was awesome, but by the time I got home I had one of the worst migraines ever. Pretty sure that something I ate at dinner had dairy in it (without my realizing it). It is unusual for me to get a migraine that bad without having it build gradually for a few hours but this one hit suddenly like a brick. So after taking medicine, I pretty much went to bed at 8:30 because there wasn't really anything else I could do.

And now it's Monday morning. Was planning on doing a few things on the computer before heading to the gym and wouldn't you know it, I can feel that migraine sneaking back. Sometimes that happens with an especially bad one -- one dose of medicine doesn't quite do the trick. Off to go take medicine before it gets any worse and then I guess I'll go back to sleep for a couple of hours (don't really have a couple more hours to sleep before work but the medicine will knock me out so I don't have much of a choice there). Better to be late for work than to get there and be completely un-functional because I'm being knocked over for a migraine that I didn't treat... BOO MIGRAINES!!!

better days!

Good news, I'm in a better mood so I can blog again! Not that I have ANYTHING to say at the moment. But I thought that expressing my improved mood was reason enough for a quick update.
Yay for weekend!
Last week was a little rough. It was a long week, full of ups and downs. And I just couldn't seem to land in the middle ever. Which would have been ok, if the downs hadn't totally outweighed the ups. This week should be better. I have a few things to look forward to coming up that should take some of the pain out of getting through the week.

Long week ahead

Today is February 6. That means there are 8 more hellish days filled with Valentine's Day commercials. BLAH. Every time I hear "every kiss begins with k" or crap commercial for the diamond exchange a little part of me dies. Like I said. BLAH.

(Sorry, if you couldn't tell, I'm not in the best of moods/not having the best of days...). I will try to refrain from posting again until I have something more positive to say.

SO cold

I've been trying all day to think of words to describe this unbelievable cold. What I've come up with probably doesn't even begin to describe how cold it is, but I'll try. It's so cold that breathing is painful. Especially if you're not breathing through a scarf but are breathing the air directly (smart Cassie left her scarf in her office when she had to run a quick errand this morning delivering some documents to another lawfirm). It's the kind of cold that makes your eyes tear up, and then the tears freeze on your eyelashes. And your contact lenses get frozen to your eyes.
Good thing we're expecting a heat wave coming on. I mean, by Thursday it should be a balmy 20!

disappointing

Well damn. That sucks. Bears should have won but they didn't.

And now I'm drunk on a Sunday evening and have to go to work in the AM. Painful...

lazy lazy day

It's like someone up there just doesn't want me to get off my butt today. First, it's SO COLD outside (or so I hear, I haven't actually left my apartment). But we're talking single digits with way below zero windchill. But more importantly, they just keep putting my favorite movies on tv. TBS and I are bonding! First, they played 10 Things I Hate About You which is incredible (and the fact that there's a Hazel song in it only makes it that much better!). Then, I was thinking maybe I'd get up, but now Father of the Bride is on. So here I sit :)

*evening edit* And things just keep getting better... Went to dinner with my Mom (so yes, I left my apartment) and now that I'm home, Legally Blonde is on. Life is good!

happy groundhog day

Almost forgot - it's groundhog day today.  And the groundhog did NOT see his shadow, which means we're due for an early spring (instead of 6 more weeks of winter).  While that sounds FABULOUS given how cold it is now and how much COLDER it's going to be in the next few days (highs in the low end of the single digits), it also seems like winter just started because it was so mild for so long.  Oh well, bring on the early spring I say!

cheers to fun thursdays!

Last night was fun.  Really fun.  Nothing major, nothing crazy, but just a good time.  And while waking up and coming into work this morning did not make me happy (though the pain was eased by the fact that we're allowed to wear jeans today with Bears gear on top), having a really nice night was worth it.

Met Lisa and Quinton at Penny's in Wicker Park for dinner.  Always nice to enjoy a dinner with the girls.  And, as an added bonus, halfway through the meal, Griff joined us.  So no longer just girls, but it was still just good to sit and chat.  After dinner, we headed over to Subterranean to catch Alison Breitman (Griff's band).  Let's start with the obvious -- going to shows is fun.  Especially when you know someone in the band.  And Alison is good.  Really impressive vocals.  Good times listening to music, hanging out with good friends, and some fun brothers (no, not trying to be "ghetto", describing guys who are actually brothers), who I always enjoy running into.

So yeah, nothing in particular spectacular happened last night, but it was really fun.  The weird thing (for me) is that I actually have plans for the next handful of Thursday nights.  Weird because I generally avoid going out on weeknights.  But I'm sure good times will be had at all :)

the waiting is the hardest part

Hmm, everytime I think about waiting, that Tom Petty song gets stuck in my head. Need to go listen to something else now... Anyway... I ordered a new digital camera online the other day (because mine is old and large and starting to die) and it was supposed to come today but now it won't come until tomorrow. Which is fine, certainly not the end of the world, but I wanted to use it tonight! Oh well, I'll have to bring my old camera instead.
Not a lot else going on. Work has been busy, which is a very very good thing. I officially joined the real estate practice group, so I'm no longer an "undesignated" associate, which is also a good thing.
I finished a book yesterday that I do not recommend to anyone. The book was On Beauty by Zadie Smith. Just one of those books where you don't like any of the characters and so you're not rooting for anyone, but you're not rooting against them either because you know you'll have to read about the pain and akwardness that ensues. It just wasn't a pleasant book to read. On a slightly different topic, apparently it was released this morning that the final Harry Potter book comes out July 21. SO EXCITED!! But it also sort of sucks because I'm going to a wedding that weekend, which means that I won't have time to read it until the next weekend. Oh well. Still SO EXCITED!!
Definitely looking forward to the upcoming weekend (and wishing that I didn't have to go to work tomorrow, though at least I can wear jeans and a Bears sweatshirt tomorrow instead of my normal work clothes). Not much planned right now (except for tonight, which isn't technically weekend) but I am looking forward to getting some good sleep. And I need to do laundry. And clean. (since I was so unproductive with that last weekend). Oh, and WATCH THE SUPER BOWL!!
GO BEARS !!!
